This book is largely a survey of the early church fathers concerning their view of the Millennium The author Martin Erdmann begins the book with the first chapter discussing about the genre of Jewish Apocalypticism Much has been made about whether or not the Book of Revelation is Apocalyptic and what does that genre entail, Erdmann at least gives some discussion about it In the second chapter, the author surveys the various millennial views which is followed by an exegesis of Revelation 20 But the real meat of the book is chapter three onwards, where Erdmann covers what the Patristics has to say about the Millennium He covers aspects of heremeneutics in the church historically in chapter three Chapter four focuses on Asiatic Millennialism, which is the earliest recorded on Millennialism known in Church Church I appreciate his evaluation on what the evidence from Pipias means, in light of the fact that he heard from the Apostle John The book also covers the historical shift of later Fathers towards a less literal hermeneutic and finally with Augustine s classical formulation of Amillennialism
